Two isoenzymes have been isolated, called muscle acylphosphatase and erythrocyte acylphosphatase on the basis of their tissue localization. ACYP2 (acylphosphatase 2) encodes the muscle-type isoform (MT). An increase of the MT isoform is associated with muscle differentiation.
