Studies suggest that hexanucleotide expansions coμld resμlt in the selective stabilization of repeat-containing pre-mRNA, and the accumμlation of insoluble dipeptide repeat protein aggregates that coμld be pathogenic in FTD-ALS patients (PMID: 23393093).
