RDM1 isinvolved in the cellular response to cisplatin, a drug commonly used in chemotherapy. Human RDM1 shares 71.1%and 51.2% amino acid identitywithmouse and chicken RDM1, respectively. RDM1 exists as 11 alternativelyspliced isoforms and only exon 3 iscommon to allvarants. Usage of two translationalstartsites, one in exon 1 and the other in intron 1, produces RDM1 isoformswith either long orshort N termini, and RDM1 isoforms have great diversityin their C termini as well. The RDM1 protein containstwomotifs: amotif found in Rad52, a protein that functions in DNA double-strand breaks and homologousrecombination, and an RNA recognitionmotif (RRM) that is not found in Rad52.
