Background: Enables histone methyltransferase activity (H3-K36 specific) and histone methyltransferase activity (H3-K9 specific). Involved in several processes, including histone H3-K36 trimethylation; regulation of DNA-templated transcription, elongation; and regulation of histone acetylation. Located in euchromatin and nucleus. Part of Cdc73/Paf1 complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; nervous system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in autosomal dominant non-syndromic intellectual disability 23. Orthologous to human SETD5 (SET domain containing 5).
