Test Principle: Glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), also known as aspartate aminotransferase (AST), is an important indicator reflecting liver function. AST in the sample catalyzes the deamination of L-aspartic acid to produce oxaloacetic acid. Oxaloacetic acid is reduced by the enzyme while NADH is oxidized to NAD+, resulting in a decrease in the absorbance at 340 nm. By monitoring the rate of the decrease in absorbance at 340 nm, the enzymatic activity of AST can be determined.
