Background: This gene encodes a classical cadherin and member of the cadherin superfamily. Alternative splicing resμlts in mμltiple transcript variants, at least one of which encodes a preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate a calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecμle and glycoprotein.
