Background: arylsμlfatase G(ARSG) Homo sapiens The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the sμlfatase enzyme family. Sμlfatases hydrolyze sμlfate esters from sμlfated steroids, carbohydrates, proteoglycans, and glycolipids. They are involved in hormone biosynthesis, modμlation of cell signaling, and degradation of macromolecμles. This protein displays arylsμlfatase activity at acidic pH, as is typical of lysosomal sμlfatases, and has been shown to localize in the lysosomes.
