Background: Calpain 1, also designated µ-calpain, is an intracellular calcium-dependent protease that cleaves cyto-skeletal and submembranous proteins. Calpains are nonlysosomal, calcium-activated intracellular cysteine proteases. Calpains mediate specific Ca2+-dependent processes including cell fusion, mitosis and meiosis. Calpains are heterodimers of a small regulatory subunit and one of three large catalytic subunits, designated Calpain 1, Calpain 2 and Calpain p94. Calpain-1 co-localizes with human leukocyte antigen-DR (HLA-DR) on activated microglia in the aging brain. Calpain influences the process of spermatogenesis and the events preceding fertilization, such as the acrosome reaction.

Purification and Purity: ProG purified.

Storage and Stability: Store at +4°C after thawing. Aliquot store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze / thaw cycles.

Specificity: Calpain 1 monoclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of Calpain 1 protein.

Bioworld Molecular Weight: 82 kDa

Note: For research use only, not for use in diagnostic procedure.

Extra Notes: ICC staining Calpain 1(green) in SiHa cells. The nuclear counter stain is DAPI (blue). Cells were fixed in paraformaldehyde, permeabilised with 0.25% Triton X100/PBS., Immunohistochemical analysis of paraffin-embedded human colon cancer tissue using anti-Calpain 1 antibody. Counter stained with hematoxylin.
