Background: The cathepsin family of proteolytic enzymes contains several diverse classes of proteases. The cysteine protease class comprises cathepsins B, L, H, K, S, and O. The aspartyl protease class is composed of cathepsins D and E. Cathepsin G is in the serine protease class. Most cathepsins are lysosomal and each is involved in cellular metabolism, participating in various events such as peptide biosynthesis and protein degradation. Cathepsins may also cleave some protein precursors, thereby releasing regulatory peptides. The promoter region of the cathepsin D gene contains five Sp1 binding sites and four AP-2 binding sites.
Product: Mouse IgG1. Liquid in PBS, pH 7.3, 30% glycerol, and 0.01% sodium azide.
Purification and Purity: This antibody is purified through a protein G column.
Specificity: Recognizes endogenous levels of Cathepsin D protein.
Note: For research use only, not for use in diagnostic procedure.
Extra Notes: Western blot analysis of Cathepsin D expression in U251 MG (A) whole cell lysates., Immunohistochemical analysis of Cathepsin D staining in human lung adenocarcinoma formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0). The section was then incubated with the antibody at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.
