Background: May play a role in cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis (PubMed:24556617).
Binds cholesterol in cholesterol-containing plasma membrane microdomains and may play a role in the organization of the apical plasma membrane in epithelial cells. During early retinal development acts as a key regulator of disk morphogenesis. Involved in regulation of MAPK and Akt signaling pathways. In neuroblastoma cells suppresses cell differentiation such as neurite outgrowth in a RET-dependent manner (PubMed:20818439).

Purification and Purity: The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen and the purity is > 221% (by SDS-PAGE).
Specificity: Recognizes endogenous levels of CD133 protein.
Note: For research use only, not for use in diagnostic procedure.
Extra Notes: Western blot analysis of CD133 expression in K562 (A), SW620 (B), Jurkat (C), mouse kidney (D), mouse lung (E) whole cell lysates., Immunohistochemical analysis of CD133 staining in human pancreas formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0). The section was then incubated with the antibody at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.
