Background: Factor XIIIA, or fibrin stabilizing factor, is activated by thrombin and Ca2+ to a protransglutaminase in the final step of the blood coagμlation cascade that cross-links fibrin chains. This enzyme catalyzes the gamma-glutamyl-epsilon-lysine cross-linking between fibrin molecμles, stabilizing the fibrin clot. It is widely expressed in dermal dendritic cells. High expression of Factor XIIIA positive cells can be indicative of inflammatory conditions such as lichen planus and psoriasis.
