Background: Flotillins belong to a family of lipid raft-associated integral membrane proteins that carry a evolutionarily conserved domain called the prohibitin homology domain. May act as a scaffolding protein within caveolar membranes, functionally participating in formation of caveolae or caveolae-like vesicles.
