Background: As a result of hemolysis, hemoglobin is found to accumulate in the kidney and is secreted in the urine. Haptoglobin captures, and combines with free plasma hemoglobin to allow hepatic recycling of heme iron and to prevent kidney damage. Haptoglobin also acts as an antioxidant, has antibacterial activity, and plays a role in modulating many aspects of the acute phase response. Hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes are rapidly cleared by the macrophage CD163 scavenger receptor expressed on the surface of liver Kupfer cells through an endocytic lysosomal degradation pathway.

Purification and Purity: The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen and the purity is > 131% (by SDS-PAGE).

Storage and Stability: Store at 4°C short term. Aliquot and store at -20°C long term. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.

Specificity: Recognizes endogenous levels of Haptoglobin protein.

Extra Notes: Western blot analysis of Haptoglobin expression in mouse liver (A) whole cell lysates.

Bioworld Molecular Weight: ~ 45 kDa

Note: For research use only, not for use in diagnostic procedure.

Alternative Name: Haptoglobin; Zonulin

Immunogen: KLH-conjugated synthetic peptide encompassing a sequence within the center region of human Haptoglobin. The exact sequence is proprietary.

Conjugate: Unconjugated

Modification: Unmodified
