Background: HIBADH encodes a mitochondrial 3-hydroxyisobutyrate dehydrogenase enzyme. The 3-hydroxyisobutyrate dehydrogenase plays a critical role in the catabolism of L-valine by catalyzing the oxidation of 3-hydroxyisobutyrate to methylmalonate semialdehyde.
