Background: Heme oxygenase (HO) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the catabolism of heme that results in the release of carbon monoxide, iron, and biliverdin. The products of this enzymatic reaction play important biological roles in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective functions. HO comprises two isozymes, including the constitutively expressed HO-2 isozyme and the inducible HO-1 isozyme. Inducible HO-1 is expressed as an adaptive response to several stimuli, including heme, metals, and hormones. The induction of HO-1 has been implicated in numerous disease states, such as transplant rejection, hypertension, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, endotoxic shock, diabetes, inflammation, and neurological disorders.

Purification and Purity: The antibody was purified by immunogen affinity chromatography.

Extra Notes: Western blot analysis of HO-1 expression in NIH3T3 (A) whole cell lysates., Immunofluorescent analysis of HO-1 staining in U87MG cells. Formalin-fixed cells were permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 5-10 minutes and blocked with 3% BSA-PBS for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were probed with the primary antibody in 3% BSA-PBS and incubated overnight at 4 °C in a hidified chamber. Cells were washed with PBST and incubated with a AF488-conjugated secondary antibody (green) in PBS at room temperature in the dark.
