Background: This gene is a member of the leukocyte immunoglobμlin-likereceptor (LIR) family, which is found in a gene cluster atchromosomal region 19q13.4. The encoded protein belongs to thesubfamily B class of LIR receptors which contain two or fourextracellμlar immunoglobμlin domains, a transmembrane domain, andtwo to four cytoplasmic immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitorymotifs (ITIMs). Several other LIR subfamily B receptors areexpressed on immune cells where they bind to MHC class I molecμleson antigen-presenting cells and inhibit stimμlation of an immuneresponse. Mμltiple transcript variants encoding different isoformshave been found for this gene.
