Background: Insulin is a disulfide-linked heterodimeric protein secreted by the pancreatic Islets of Langerhans. Mature insulin is generated by the proteolytic removal of a peptide from proinsulin. It is involved in the regulation of glucose metabolism through interactions with the Insulin Receptor.
