Background: Binds to scaffold/matrix attachment region (S/MAR) DNA and forms a molecular assembly point to allow the formation of a 'transcriptosomal' complex (consisting of SR proteins and RNA polymerase II) coupling transcription and RNA processing.Functions as an estrogen receptor corepressor and can also bind to the HSP27 promoter and decrease its transcription.Thereby acts as a negative regulator of cell proliferation,When associated with RBMX, binds to and stimulates transcription from the SREBF1 promoter (By similarity).

Extra Notes: Western blot analysis of SAF-B1 expression in Hela (A), A431 (B), MDAMB468 (C), ZR751 (D), MCF7 (E) whole cell lysates., Immunofluorescent analysis of SAF-B1 staining in HeLa cells. Formalin-fixed cells were permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 5-10 minutes and blocked with 3% BSA-PBS for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were probed with the primary antibody in 3% BSA-PBS and incubated overnight at 4 °C in a hidified chamber. Cells were washed with PBST and incubated with a AF488-conjugated secondary antibody (green) in PBS at room temperature in the dark.
