Background: Thyroglobulin is a large preprotein containing multiple glycosylation sites. Located in the thyroid gland, Thyroglobulin is the precursor of the iodinated thyroid hormones Thyroxine and Triiodothyronine. Thyroglobulin monomers undergo conformational maturation in the endoplasmic reticulum, prior to forming dimers. This dimerization, as well as export of Thyroglobulin to the
Golgi complex, has been shown to require Ca2+. Defects in Thyroglobulin are known to cause some types of goiter (an enlargement of the thyroid gland). This condition is thought to result from defective dimerization and transport of Thyroglobulin to the Golgi complex.
Purification and Purity: The antibody was affinity-purified from mouse antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen and the purity is > 95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Storage and Stability: Store at 4°C short term. Aliquot and store at -20°C long term. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Note: For research use only, not for use in diagnostic procedure.
Extra Notes: Immunohistochemical analysis of Thyroglobulin staining in human follicular thyroid carcinoma formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6. 0). The section was then incubated with the antibody at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.
