Background: Tubμlin is the major constituent of microtubμles, a cylinder consisting of laterally associated linear protofilaments composed of alpha- and beta-tubμlin heterodimers. Microtubμles grow by the addition of GTP-tubμlin dimers to the microtubμle end, where a stabilizing cap forms. Below the cap, tubμlin dimers are in GDP-bound state, owing to GTPase activity of alpha-tubμlin.
