Background: Involved in the biosynthesis of tetrahydrobiopterin, an essential cofactor of aromatic amino acid hydroxylases. Catalyzes the transformation of 7, 8-dihydroneopterin triphosphate into 6-pyruvoyl tetrahydropterin.
